Neste ano, a nossa amada denominação, Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil está em festa, pois completa 150 anos, desde que um franzino, mas piedoso pastor deixou sua terra e aqui aportou em 12 de agosto de 1859 e, mesmo vivendo apenas mais oito anos desde que aqui chegou, o Pastor-Missionário Ashbel Green Simonton, realizou uma grandiosa obra de evangelização e plantou sementes que até hoje estamos colhendo.
Pensar que somos fruto da renúncia pessoal e do labor de alguém já deveria ser um grande desafio para uma fé operosa, como as Escrituras nos desafiam a cultivar, mas mais do que isso, é melhor ainda saber que o mesmo Deus que sustentou e usou de forma poderosa o Seu servo no passado é o Deus quem tem sustentado a nossa igreja no Brasil nestes anos todos.
A propósito desta comemoração e à luz do exemplo não só do Rev. Simonton, mas de tantos outros pastores e demais crentes que Deus usou no decorrer destes anos, Deus chama a mim e a você para sermos os continuadores desta obra. Quanto a isso, é importante lembrarmos que além de ter usado o seu servo no passado, Deus deseja nos usar hoje como membros ativos e comprometidos do corpo de Cristo a fim de que sua igreja seja edificada.
Não podemos negar os erros que a igreja também tem cometido ao longo de sua história, mas isto também é prova de que a igreja é feita de homens e não pode depender somente deles e evidência inconteste de que Deus é o Deus gracioso que usa vasos imperfeitos e faz sua igreja avançar mesmo assim, mostrando que a glória é somente dele.
Sejamos gratos pelo chamado do Senhor para que fizéssemos parte desta igreja, e demonstremos com sinceridade nossa gratidão com ações que ajudem a igreja a continuar sua caminhada. Rev. Djaik
